Every Monday I'll provide five or so tsume problems that I found interesting or challenging throughout the week. This week's tsumes all come from the book "Tsumeshogi from 9-kyu to 1-kyu" (九級から一級までの詰将棋) by Kunio Naitou.

For the second mate-in-3, I could only find mate-in-5 moves. While trying to figure out how you might be counting futile interposition, I finally saw the 3 move solution! It is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI also probably spent about 10 minutes trying to solve the first 5-move until I realized there were actually 2 golds in hand! The diagram creator developers really need to make the numbers more legible in their image generation!
The final 5-move is my favorite. I enjoy solving tsumeshogi problems that have a “gotcha” move somewhere in a variation, especially odd looking sacrifices of major pieces. This is one of those problems where I didn’t stumble upon the correct solution until trying every other legal move!
I don’t think I own the tsumeshogi book you’re sourcing this from, so all these problems are new to me! :D
